PARENTS: Help your child understand what each of the commandments mean by doing an activity together click here (This activity is from The Religion Teacher website)
Parents, please share the message below with your child...
God gave Moses (and us) the 10 Commandments. Later Jesus gave us The Beatitudes. For a nice explanation of the Beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount, in the gospel of Matthew click here.
Share this 'lesson' with your child and explain that if we want to follow Jesus this is what our "attitude should be".

Parents: Before watching both videos below, please go over the article "Reconciliation Guide for Children" click here.
The video below is an overview of what the Sacrament of Confession is and why we should receive it. It briefly explains what happens during the child's confession.
The video below explains the 7 Steps for a child's First Reconciliation. It breaks down each step and then it shows a young girl going to confession.
Please watch this video with your child and then you can 'role play' and pretend that your child is going to confession with you as 'the priest'. This may help your child be more comfortable when he/she actually goes to confession for the first time. Have your child practice the Act of Contrition and maybe pretend that the penance is to say the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be. Of course you may need to do this activity a few times until your child is comfortable saying all of the prayers.
